Looking for ideas for a nice and easy to plan woodland friends party? This theme goes perfectly for celebrating a little one’s birthday, adding some extra fun for a Thanksgiving get together, and/or sprucing up a Christmas party with little ones (just add Santa hats to the woodland animals 🙂 ). Read on to check out our ideas on party tables, activities, games, and more!
THE TABLE
For our table, we went with a brown-ish, kid-friendly woodland theme. We picked up some Woodland Animals Party Supplies for the plates and napkins and sprinkled Unfinished Wooden Acorns around as table scatter (more on that later 🙂 ). We also set up a straw at each table setting from the Woodland Party Favors. Note: the straws are a bit heavy, so they were mostly for decoration and give-aways.
For our centerpiece, we went with a few 3D cardboard cutouts from the Woodland Party Centerpiece and also picked up a few Mushroom Bug Catchers from the Target Spot Section.
THE PHOTO BOOTH
We went with a very simple photo booth for our woodland party but had quite a few props. We used a simple Brown Wood Backdrop but had our Tree Stump Ottomans and Green Blanket lying on the floor. We let the kids pick out some animal masks from the Woodland Party Favors set that we picked up, so they could all pose as their favorite woodland creatures 🙂
If you’re looking for more of a camping type woodland friends setup, you can go a little more all out. We set up a fake campfire and had a mini tent for one of our Camping Parties, which would work for a woodland party as well 🙂
Note, you don’t have to go all out with a photo backdrop stand either. Grab a few pieces of tape and an empty wall & you’re all set!
THE ACTIVITY TABLE
We typically set up an activity table for kids to keep entertained while everyone arrives AND after all the games are done. These activities are simple and easy and typically don’t require too much supervision.
- Woodland Sticker Friends: Inside the Woodland Party Favors set, there are 12 sticker sets to create some woodland friends. We laid those out as an activity and had kids add their woodland friend to a larger posterboard to create a woodland scene 🙂
- Suncatcher Painting: We picked up a handful of suncatcher paint sets from the Dollar Tree – there are quite a few styles, so we searched for anything that looked a bit more ‘woodland’ (foxes, birds, etc).
- Ceramic Animal Planters from the Dollar Tree: These are super cute & we let each kid decorate them with paint and/or stickers. We didn’t have a mini plant but you could have one for giveaways at the end of the party if you want to go that route 🙂
And while we didn’t get to these other crafts and activities, we thought we’d mention them here for some more fun to pick and choose from!
- Acorn Painting: We used the Unfinished Wooden Acorns for a game and so didn’t have the kids paint them but you could definitely use those for another painting or coloring craft!
- Nature Houses: If you’re fortunate enough to have good weather and can take the party outside, have them search around for some rocks, sticks, and any other natural items to make a nature house!
GAMES
Games! Games! Games! What is a party without a few games 🙂 We had a few simple ones that kept the kiddos busy throughout the party!
- Lincoln Log Challenges: Lincoln Logs are super fun and great for building creativity, spatial skills, and more! We simply laid ours out on a table with a few challenges: Build the tallest tower, Build a house for a mini figurine, build the longest wall, etc 🙂
- Find the Acorns: this is where those Unfinished Wooden Acorns come into play! They were hidden all over the party area – on the table, food tables, activity tables, photo backdrop areas, and more! We had the kids run around and try to find all the acorns as they could!
- Acorn Relay Races: now that we had all the acorns found, it was time for a relay race! Depending on your age range, you could vary it up a bit but the gist is breaking up into teams and trying to fill a bucket with acorns across the room. For our older, more coordinated guests, we had them use spoons while little ones could simply run the across across in their hands 🙂
- Scavenger Hunt: And last but not least we had our scavenger hunt! Rather than have the kiddos find a specific number of items, we had them keep count (because honestly we lost count of how many pine cones and acorns we hid!). 🙂
GOODIE BAGS & GIVEAWAYS
If crafts were made, the kids of course went home with those. We also filled the bag with the rest of the items from the Woodland Party Favors set – key chains, bubbles, slap bracelets…. And of course party candy!
