Go big or go home 🙂 Need a die but want to supersize it for large-than-life games? Check out this tutorial where you may just have most of these supplies at home!
The idea for this came from seeing a tutorial on how to create a paper die out of cardstock (First Palette – Paper Dice). We wanted some dice that were a bit bigger for our activities and so ‘super-sized’ this technique 🙂
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
THE SUPPLIES:
- Standard Sized Poster board
- Marker/Writing Utensil/Sticker/Construction Paper – this will make the Dots for each face of the die.
- Square Shaped item (we used a book about 6in) OR Ruler
THE TOOLS
- Tape or glue stick
- Scissors
- Ruler (Optional)
STEPS
STEP 1: Create the Die Outline
Following the Die outline pattern and using the square item, trace or create four squares (leaving room for the small insert – long trapezoid shape).
Create the trapezoid shapes as well – note, these don’t have to be perfect as they will be tucked underneath the die faces.
STEP 2: Cut out the Die
Cut out the die 🙂 The trapezoid inserts don’t need to be perfect but you’ll want to make sure the squares are all the same size otherwise your dice will be misshapen.
STEP 3: Create the Pips (small dots on the die).
If you’re creating a standard die, you can draw, cut out some small construction paper circles, or find some circle stickers.
OTHERWISE, if you’re using this for a party, you can create themed dots, like characters from your party’s theme or use certain objects related to the holiday. The important thing is that there is a face for each #, one through six.
We used this for a Team Umizoomi Party and used yellow dots. But, we’ve also used this for Halloween and used pumpkin stickers on a black poster board to keep in the Halloween spirit 🙂 Possibilities are endless – have fun with it! :):):)
STEP 4: Create the Die
Fold the poster board on each of the lines. Once the poster board has been folded, shape it into a cube. Tuck the smaller pieces underneath each face and glue them together.
THE FINISHED PRODUCT!
Use for your large-scale indoor or backyard games, counting fun, and/or parties! They’re light and the edges aren’t overly pointy, so you can toss them up and down too 😉
