THE TABLE
With a few green and gold theme tableware and some leftover Halloween cauldrons, you can set up your table in a budget-friendly festive St. Patrick’s Day theme! The solid colored plates, napkins, and cups were can be found at party stores, while most of the other items (coins, centerpiece, mini cauldrons, shamrock scatter) were all from the Dollar Tree.
Add some gold toy bars in the center – they serve as great decorative purpose, and also doubled as an activity later. They’re the Gold Dig It Toys from Target (I couldn’t find the link, but it’s similar to this one on the Walmart Site: Gold Dig It Toy). Note: it doesn’t come with safety goggles but that might be a good idea. We’ve used some larger kits for other “dig for gem” type toys and they came with the goggles but you can find them separately as well.
THE SNACKS
- Green Fruit: Lay out a few bowls or a board of green fruit – honey dew, green grapes, kiwi, green apples, pears…
- Green Veggies: Lay out few bowls or a board of green veggies – cucumbers, green peppers, microgreens…
- Fruit Loop Rainbows – grab a box of fruit loops & let the kiddos create some rainbows on their plates! If you’re OK with a bit more sugar, pass out some gold wrapped rolos (for the pot of gold) and marshmallows (for clouds) for them to add along.
- Mini Cups of Lucky Charms.
- Green Jello – buy a box to make on your own or pick up the pre-made cups.
ACTIVITIES
- Wood Shape Crafts – The entire month, you can easily find some wooden crafts (DIY Horseshoes, Be Kind Wooden Craft, St. Patrick’s Day Signs, …) that the kids can paint on their own. Pick up a set or have a variety and let them get creative and decorate!
- Gold Pom Pom Straw Game – Pass out a few straws and lay out some mini cauldrons a short (or long) distance away. Then have each kid try to pick up as many gold pom poms as quickly as they can with two straws. The goal is to get as many into their mini cauldron as possible. First one to fill up their cauldron with “gold” wins! You can also vary this with spoons or another tool instead of straws, gold coins or candy instead of pom poms.
- Shamrock Hunt – Hide a few paper or foam shamrocks around your party area and see who can find the most!
Gold Dig It! – There are a few larger kits that you can find online (National Geographic Gold Dig It) but we just picked up a handful from Target. If your kids are into activities where they get to chisel away at blocks to find a gem, this is a great activity! Note: depending on how enthusiastic your kid is about chiseling away, you may want to have them wear some safety goggles. They usually come with the bigger kits but you can find some separately as well).
- An Easy, Indoor St. Patrick’s Day Treasure Hunt – Follow the rainbow to get to the pot of gold with our quick & easy indoor treasure hunt!
