While we all love traditional Halloween parties and themes, Halloween is also a great time to have a play around with the theme of a party – especially if you have a number of guests dressing up to the same movie, cartoon, or game! When Halloween rolled around this year, we had quite a few avid pokemon fans determined to be the best Pikachu, Eevee, and even Ash! So, we leaned into it & hosted a Pokemon Halloween Party!
While it may seem daunting to take on a Pokemon Halloween Party, it was actually quite easy to set up! There are tons of Pokemon AND Halloween items that you can find in stores or DIY, which makes things much easier! Read on to check it out how we set up our Pokemon Halloween party!
Also, if you’re looking for other easy, budget friendly ideas, we did have an Amazing Pokemon Party where we took our guests on a journey to gather gym badges!
DECOR
Chances are, if you’re throwing a Pokemon party, you already have a TON of pokemon items around the house. If you’re OK with having them around the party area, they’d make great decorations!
Since this was a Pokemon Halloween party, we also had some traditional Halloween decorations like pumpkins, witch hats, and autumn decorations.
We also purchased a few Trick or Trade Pokemon Cards from both Amazon and Aldis! These made great decorations as well as props for games and items for goodie bags!
THE TABLE
In keeping with the Pokemon Halloween theme, we used basic red and white items along with Trick or Trade Pokemon Cards.
For the table settings, we used a Pokemon Tableware Set which had some dessert plates, napkins, and a small table cover (which we ended up using for a food table since it was pretty small). We paired those with some basic white dinner plates and red cups. If you do want to go all out, you could decorate your cup like a pokeball as well. We also added a Mega Construx Pokemon Ball at each setting (this was their give-away :))
In the center, we set out a few Halloween Pokemon cards from the set. If your group is full of Pokemon fans, expect some claiming and trading to go around! Though it’s a good idea to announce a limit of cards they can claim (or ‘catch’) before they sit down.
PARTY FOOD
No party is complete without some party food! We did reuse a number of food items from a previous Amazing Pokemon Party. You might also be able to find some Pokemon themed snacks at your grocery store – Fruit Snacks, Crackers, etc.
ACTIVITY TABLE(S)
We typically set up an activity table for kids to keep entertained while everyone arrives AND after all the games are done. These activities are simple and easy and typically don’t require too much supervision.
We turned to the trusty Pokemon site as they have a ton of printable activities: Pokémon Activity Sheets for Kids—Puzzles, Mazes, Coloring Pages, and More. It’s a great collection of coloring pages, origami, mazes, word searches, trivia, and more! There is a section toward the end that has a collection of Halloween printable activities so you don’t have to search through each section for Ghost or Halloween type pokemon 🙂
We also had a Pokeball station – similar to one we had for our Amazing Pokemon Party – where kids could cut out some images of Pokeballs. We did hint that they’d be used later so they’d need to have at least some Pokeballs.
Alternatively, you could use some of these as ‘challenges’ for group games. Split the kids into groups and pass out a printed activity and see who finishes first! The team with the most first place finishes wins!
GAMES / GUIDED ACTIVITIES
What’s a party without some fun and memorable games??? Kids will definitely have fun just running around and coming up with their own games, BUT adding in a few themed games will definitely be a hit with your guests! Here were a few of ours:
- Pokemon Pumpkin Carving – Now, this one can get a bit messy and may require adult assistance depending on how old your guests are. BUT, carving a Pokemon into a pumpkin is a masterful feat 🙂 AND the pokemon website actually has some patterns that you can use: Get Carving with Pokémon Pumpkin Patterns by Pokemon
- Pokemon Guess Who – using a card from the Trick or Trade Pokemon Cards Set
- Pokemon Trivia – On the Pokémon Activity Sheets for Kids—Puzzles, Mazes, Coloring Pages, and More, there is a section for Trivia. Print them out for each kid to fill out, work in teams, or just call out to the entire group!
- Pokemon Go – depending on the ages of your guests & whether or not they have their own mobile devices, you might consider going on a walk around a safe space outdoors to catch some pokemon! There is even a feature now that let’s you “party” together and complete tasks.
FUN THROUGHOUT THE PARTY
And similar to our Amazing Pokemon Party, we gave the kids a chance to get some extra candy or Pokemon cards throughout the party. Rather than tossing the card on the floor and announcing there was a ‘wild pokemon’, we had a few printouts of images that we placed & that the kids could toss their pokeballs onto. The ‘winner’ got the corresponding Pokemon Trading card. (We went this route instead of placing the actual card to make sure the card didn’t get damaged in the shuffle to catch the pokemon 😉 )
GIVEAWAYS AND GOODIE BAGS
What’s a party without a few giveaways 🙂 They, of course, got to keep a pumpkin (whether they carved it or not) as well as their Mega Block Pokemon from their table setting. We also added some extra packets of Trick or Trade Pokemon Cards and some candy into their goodie bags 🙂
