The Ultimate Phantom of the Opera Party

Mystery, intrigue, masquerades, gothic vibes, and opera elegance.  What is not to love with the Phantom of the Opera?  If you’re looking for a fun, unique, elegant party theme for New Years, Halloween, or any other celebration, this Phantom of the Opera will certainly hit the mark!  Read on to check out our ideas!

DECORATIONS

The Phantom of the Opera is steeped in mystery, so lots of black, silver, and red colors would be perfect for this theme. We opted for silver rather than gold for this party but gold colors would definitely work perfectly (and are abundant in stores around New Years).

In a nod to the Opera’s famous fallen chandelier, scatter some acrylic gems, diamond rhinestones, and/or Crystal Chandelier Prism Pendant Parts

And in nod to the Phantom’s red roses with black ribbons, scatter some red rose petals or real (or plastic) roses with black ribbons all around the area!

We also set out some Phantom items we’ve picked up along the way (Phantom Monkey Figurine Ornament, Phantom of the Opera book by Gaston Leroux) and an amusing book Emoji Phantom of the Opera: Epic Tales in Tiny Texts.

THE PHOTO AREA

Photo backdrops are a great way of setting a theme and double as a nice and easy activity!  Pick a backdrop that functions as decorative, add a few props to the scene and you’ve got a great place to hang out!

For your photo area, a masquerade backdrop (Masquerade Backdrop), chandelier backdrop (Fabric Luxury Chandelier Backdrop), red curtain (2 pc Red Curtain), or any plain black & eerie space would work perfectly. Then pair with some masks or photo props (Masquerade Ball Photo Stick Props), and you’ve got a great photo op space!   For this party, we opted for a backdrop with a chandelier and staircase to give off some elegant opera feels: Gold Luxurious Palace Backdrop

Note, you don’t have to go all out with a photo backdrop stand either.  Grab a few pieces of tape and an empty wall & you’re all set!

THE TABLE

We wanted to bring out some of the more elegant opera vibes for our party table, but we also didn’t want to worry about dishes or breakables.  So, we opted for some disposable (but still nice looking) table sets 🙂

For each place setting, we used Plastic Reef Charger Plates, then added a print out of some music sheets from the opera (printed on metallic cardstock).  On top of those, we used Clear Silver Plastic Plates, so the music sheets could still be seen.  Then placed out Silver Plastic Cups and Elegant Clear Hard Plastic Wine Glasses Silver Rim.  Above each plate, we also printed out our menu (with nods to the opera parts, also on metallic cardstock) and placed those in Diamond Place Card Holders.  On top of Linen-Feel Guest Towels, we added Heavy Duty (Silver) Plastic Silverware,  Each setting also had a red rose (Artificial Silk Flowers) as a nod to the rose the phantom gives in the opera.

In the center, we placed a single White Phantom Plastic Mask.  We also scattered some Crystal Chandelier Prism Pendant Parts

PARTY FOOD

No party is complete without some party food!  You can always serve some typical (or fancier) party food, but you can also keep in theme with a few clever labels or snacks 🙂

We had some pasta and appetizers but also set out some chocolate covered strawberries, chocolate roses, and bacon roses.

GAMES & ACTIVITIES

What’s a party without some fun and memorable activities and games? .

  • Rose Crafts – Create some easy paper roses out of construction paper or use Long Stem Rose Craft Kit to create some nice items to take home.
  • Christmas Sheet Music Ornament Craft Kit – This one is quite simple.  Everything is already cut out and you only have to thread the string through.
  • Karaoke – play the soundtrack & sing along!

And while we didn’t have these games at our party, you could also add these in for some more party fun.

  • Trivia: there are tons of trivia pages and quizzes online that your group could do together to test our their
  • 3D Wooden Puzzle Bookend Bookshelf – This one is not for the faint of heart, but if you have a craft bunch & a good amount of time, the finished product would definitely look amazing!
  • Both the Phantom of the Opera and Love Never Dies are available to watch on some streaming services.

GIVEAWAYS AND GOODIE BAGS

What’s a party without a few giveaways 🙂  We kept things simple for this one and handed out red roses with black ribbons tied to them – the Phantom would be proud 😉
