An Easy & Inexpensive Bigfoot Craft – Step By Step
Tagged Tags: ,

Looking for a simple craft for your cryptozoologist or budding bigfoot fan? This one is extremely simple and you may even have all the materials already! Read on to check it put!

We used this craft for our Bigfoot Day in our Mythical Creature Week. Feel free to check those out for more ideas 🙂

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

THE SUPPLIES:

  • 1 Upcycled Toilet or a Half of a Paper Towel Roll
  • 1 Sheet of Brown or Black Construction Paper
  • 2 Googly Eyes (or Markers)

THE TOOLS:

  • Scissors
  • Glue (Hot Glue works best but you’d need to help our your little ones)

STEPS

STEP 1: Create the Hair

Bigfoot is a large mythical creature typically described as completely covered in brown or black hair, which we’ll create using the construction paper.  Cut the construction paper in thirds, lengthwise.

Then stack them on top of each other and fold in half, lengthwise. (This makes the cutting quicker).

Cut small lines about ⅔ of the way to the folded side.

Once you have 3 long strips of ‘hair’, cut the stack in half (Half should go around the roll completely).

You should have 6 strips of ‘hair’.

STEP 2: Attach the Hair to the Body

Wrap a strip of ‘hair’ around the bottom of the paper roll.  Affix with glue.  Repeat until you get to the top. You should use about 4-5 strips but you can use more if you want your Bigfoot to be ‘hairier’

STEP 3: Add the Eyes

At the top, glue the googly eyes.

STEP 4: Finish the Top

Add a final strip at the top, folding over one end on the outside and the other on the inside. Half of the top paper strip should hang over so that you can make the head a bit shaggier.

MORE FUN

That was easy 🙂 You can always vary it up to add on to the crafting fun 🙂

  • Size: If you have some more paper roles, you can make some taller (paper towel roles) or shorter by cutting the roles in half.
  • Color Variations: While Bigfoot is generally described as brown, dark brown, or black haired, you can try different colors OR mix the browns and blacks to create some more shades in Bigfoot’s hair!
  • Painting: If you want to add some more depth and color to your Bigfoot, you can paint (or use crayons) on a blank sheet of white paper to create the perfect color for your Bigfoot!
  • Texture: Since construction paper is quite easy to find AND creating the hair is good motor skill practice, we opted for this route. If you can make it to a craft or fabric store, you might be able to find some pieces of hairy fabric. This would give your Bigfoot that extra touch 🙂
  • Add Arms: Our bigfoot is quite simple – which is great for little ones just learning to cut or glue. If you’re looking for more of a challenge for older ones, invite them to add some arms (using some longer strips of paper) to each side.
