Haunted houses and spooky decorations are everywhere around Halloween season. But, if you have younger ones or kids who love the season (without the frights), this Not-So-Haunted House Halloween party is perfect for you! With games & decorations themed to friendly looking Halloween houses, the little ones can join in on the Halloween fun without the screams! Read on to check it out!
DECOR
For this party, we went with a traditional orange and black color scheme – there are quite a few decorations around the Halloween season and a ton of kid-friendly ones (especially smiling pumpkins, ghosts, vampires or other Halloween characters). We kept to images and items with smiling Halloween creatures to make sure everything was all in fright-less fun!
THE TABLE
We kept things pretty basic with a black and orange color scheme for our Halloween Table. Throughout the Halloween holiday, there are several kid-friendly Halloween themed plates – we picked one with a somewhat Haunted House in the background. The link to the plates we picked out is no longer working, but here are a few options that would work too! (50 Halloween Plates, 16 Haunted House Plates & Napkins)
For each table setting, we added a small cup with chocolate graham crackers, Halloween peeps, and some candy pumpkins. Those we used after the meal to create some candied Halloween houses 🙂
In the center, we had a small paper 3D puzzle from Halloween 3D Puzzle Toys set. And we sprinkled Halloween Nerdy Pumpkin Stickers and Halloween Pumpkin Stickers around the tables.
PARTY FOOD
No party is complete without some party food! There are TONS of ideas and recipes for Halloween AND quite a few store-bought packages that you can set out as well 🙂
ACTIVITY TABLE(S)
We typically set up an activity table for kids to keep entertained while everyone arrives AND after all the games are done. These activities are simple and easy and typically don’t require too much supervision.
GAMES / GUIDED ACTIVITIES
What’s a party without some fun and memorable games??? Kids will definitely have fun just running around and coming up with their own games, BUT adding in a few themed games will definitely be a hit with your guests! Here were a few of ours:
- Halloween Peeps Graham Cracker Houses: With some icing, chocolate graham crackers, peeps, and some Halloween sprinkles, let the kids create some imaginative houses for their marshmallow ghost or monsters!
- “Haunted House”. Soooo, since this was a not-so-scary Haunted House, we did set up a small ‘obstacle’ course for the little ones with each activity themed to a Halloween character. Any decorations we had were very kid friendly and cartoonish (We had younger guests so our obstacle course was a bit easy but you could definitely have a much more difficult set up if you have older kids)
- Pumpkin Patch: Hop on the Pumpkins (in order for older kids for a more difficult challenge.
- Ghosts: Get past the ghosts without touching them!
- Witches: Balance on the ‘Witch’s Broom
- Spiders: “Walk like a spider” to get across!
GIVEAWAYS AND GOODIE BAGS
What’s a party without a few giveaways 🙂 Since it’s Halloween season, set out a few mini pumpkins and let the little ones pick one or two!
