What party would not be complete without balloons? Though if you can’t make it to a store or just don’t have the extra cash to spend on high flying helium balloons, there’s still so much you can do with regular ole blown balloons. Here are a few ideas you can add to your birthday party!
- A room full of balloons! If you’ve got some extra help, try blowing up as many balloons as possible. You can use colors related to your theme or just have a floor full of balloons! Kids love just tossing them in the air or seeing a ton of them everywhere!
- Balloon surprise! If you’ve got a bit of extra time, throw in some confetti or fun-sized candy in the balloons. Then let the kiddos pop them at the end of the party for added fun. Beware: some adults may want to get it on this action too!
- Make the balloon surprise a word puzzle. If it’s a birthday or another holiday, cut out letters that spell out “Happy Birthday, [Name]” or whatever the holiday is and add a letter to a balloon before you blow it up. Once all the balloons are popped, the kids (or adults) can gather all the letters and see what they spell out. If you’ve got the extra lung power, you can add in some other balloons with confetti and/or candy!
- Make the balloon surprise the start of a treasure hunt! Instead of spelling out “Happy Birthday” and adding a letter to a balloon, add in treasure hunt clues to other little presents or treasures around the party area.
- Create balloon pinatas! If you’ve got some extra time before the party (a few days or so) AND are brave enough to let kids smash some pinatas (a bit messy), then try out a few balloon pinatas! Mix equal parts flour and water to make a “paper mache mixture”. Cut out strips of newspaper or magazine. Dip the strips into the flour mixture and wrap them around a blown up balloon. If you want to make them stronger (harder to crack), then you can add more layers after the initial one dries. Once you’re done layering the balloon pinata, you can cover it with colored tissue then pop the balloon. Voila! You have a homemade pinata.
Happy Balloon Popping 🙂
