If you’ve got a little one, chances are you’ll be throwing a princess or knight party at some point in their younger lives.  If so, check out a few of these suggestions filled with dragons, knights, castles, jesters, and more!

INVITATIONS:

If you’re sending out invitations by hand or snail mail, print out the party details on a paper with a scroll (Specialty Scroll Design Paper) or aged stationery paper (Vintage Paper) rolled up as a scroll.  User a fancier font, add in rhymes, ask guests to come in costume, and anything else you can think of!  Below are a few examples, but have fun with it!

Your presence is requested at [Prince or Princess Child’s Name] Court.

A great danger has befallen the kingdom and we call upon all knights, princes, princesses, wizards, and all willing in all the lands to help vanquish this foe.  Come prepared!

****

Let’s show show [Prince or Princess Child’s Name] how much we adore [him/her] on [his/her]  #th birthday!

Come celebrate with fanfare, feasts, and more!

Once we are through, the tales of this grand affair will be legend and lore!

DECOR

If you’ve got a little one who’s asking for a prince, princess, or knight party, you may already have some of those themed toys lying around – small castles, Knights & Dragons Figurines, Toy Coins, etc..  Place them around the house (provided your kiddo is okay with guests looking and possibly playing around with them).

If you have some wooden chess sets, you can have those around the party area as well.

ARRIVAL

Most guests will trickle in a few minutes before or after the actual start time of the party.  To keep everyone in theme, you can “announce” your younger guests as “Prince/Princess/Duke/Duchess/Wizard/Knight so and so”.

If you’ve got a big party, you may want to set up a small area with print outs or coloring pages to keep them busy until all the games start.  We set up some DIY Shields, DIY Swords, and Knight Masks for the kids to create on their own 🙂

FOOD & DRINKS

No party is complete without at least some appetizers or food & drinks.  If you’re going for a more medieval theme, think “no utensils, lots of napkins” 🙂   Serve large turkey legs, corn on the cob, rustic looking bread loaves, baked potatoes, etc..

If you want to add some more fun to the food area, you can also add some labels on a few dishes:

  • Dragon Tails – Croissants
  • Dragon Scales – Tortilla Chips
  • Dragon’s Breath Punch- Freeze orange and red-colored ice cubes (a combination of Kool-Aid and cranberry juice works well) before the party. At the party, serve a lemon-lime soda or ginger ale, and let each child drop in the “frozen dragon’s breath” ice cube that will turn their drink into a magical treat!

Cupcake toppers are always an easy way to add some more decor to your theme.  You can purchase some or print out a few and tape them to toothpicks.

CRAFTS

If you’ve got a more crafty bunch of kiddos or don’t have as much space to move around, you can set up a craft table and have a number of table activities.

  • Grab a few items to make let kids make dioramas with knights, dragons, and other mini figures.  You can use some of the Wooden Castle Birdhouses from Michaels or give them popsicle sticks to make their own.   You may want to use hot glue for this project, but adult supervision/assistance is necessary
  • Save the DIY Shields, DIY Swords, and Knight Masks for the kiddos to color and design at this table.  If you’re tight on budget, you can print out some blank shields and have the kids color those as well.
  • Have the kids decorate their own Castle Wood Photo Frame

GAMES

Games will largely depend on the theme and age group of your guests.  Below are a few suggestions from easiest to hardest:

  • Auditions for the court jester.  If you’ve got a baby or toddler who is the person of honor for the party and a mix of older kids as well, you can have all other guests “audition” for the role of court jester.  Their goal is to make the birthday boy or girl laugh the most.
  • Jugglers Challenge. This one is just as it sounds.  Guess have a few balls that they’ll need to juggle.  Whoever can juggle the most and the longest wins.
  • Whispering Wizards.  This a similar to “telephone”; however, the person who starts is Famous Wizard of the Realm.  The goal is to get his/her message across the realm.
  • Steal the Crown.  Have the birthday kid wear a paper crown on their head.  They must close their eyes (or at least turn around).  All other party guests start at the other end of the room. Once the birthday kid is ready, the other guests try – as stealthily as possible – to sneak up and try to steal the crown.  Once the crown has been stolen, the successful thief is now the newly crowned person and the game repeats.
  • If you’ve got a large space, backyard or nearby park, you can play some relay races or try to fly some Dragon Kites, Dragon Gliders and/or Mini Bulk Dragon Gliders.
  • Treasure Chest Pinata – Last but not least, there are tons of pinatas around – from dragons to treasure chests, etc..  Pick one that matches your theme and let go.

GOODIE BAGS

Depending on your budget, you can pass out some simple goodie bags or throw in a few things.  These Treasure Boxes are super cute & work well!

  • Knights & Dragons figurines
  • Dragon Gliders (from the game above)
  • Chocolate coins
  • Bead necklaces
  • Castle photo frame (with or without a group photo if you’ve managed to  take one)
  • Stickers
