Who’s ready for a masquerade party that the entire family can join in on? While masquerades are typically elegant, decadent affairs, everyone can enjoy dressing up and donning a mask! Read on to check out the fun!
For this family party, we had a mix of generations and so had a kids table and activities set up for the earlier part of the evening and a fancier dinner menu a bit later for the adults 🙂
THE TABLE
We stuck with a gold, silver, and black color theme and used those colors throughout the party area. We used a few glitter feathers (White & Silver Feathers and Black and Gold Feathers), as well as Glitter Tea Lights,
The table centerpiece was simply one of our masks (from the Spirit Halloween Store) with a few glitter feathers placed in a vase along with ostrich feathers placed along the center. Above the ostrich feathers, we also placed some of the tea lights (battery operated so much safer 😉 )
Next to each table setting, we also placed a few masquerade items. Each setting had a Mini Silver Masks, as well as one of the black masks from this Lace Masks Set.
THE KID TABLE
While you can definitely set up both tables in the exact same way, decorating the kids table in a slightly different way makes it far more appealing to them 😉 The kid table had a bit more color in there – purples and lilacs, along with craft feathers and Diamond Rhinestones that were promptly scooped up during their dinner.
The table centerpiece was similar to the adult table but we used a more colorful mask as well as more purple and lilac tissue paper – simple and easy 🙂
The Masquerade Dessert Plates and Masquerade Napkins were from Party City while the other solid color items (plates, cups, plasticware) were also from the Party store or Dollar Stores. We re-used the candy give-away idea from our adult table but used dark and light purple tissue and gold ribbon.
THE PHOTO BOOTH
If you’re all dressed up and showing off your masquerade masks, you’ll want to take some pictures!!! Ours was a simple and small one (less than $10) but served our purpose: Masquerade Photo Backdrop. There are definitely larger ones out there, so check around to match whatever works for you!
For those who did not come in masks (or who wanted to use some additional props), we purchased a discounted set of Masquerade Photo Props – they are on clearance because the sticks didn’t stick, but a bit of tape and you’re all set!
ACTIVITIES
For our little ones who joined the earlier portion of our masquerade party, we had a few activities set up for them to keep them entertained.
BORROW A MASK: Believe it or not, the larger (not lace) masks are actually from the Dollar Tree! We picked up a handful and let each kid pick out and keep one. While these are a bit different from the ones we purchased, it looks like the Dollar Tree does still have some masks available: Bulk Mardi Gras Masks – though if you purchase online you have to buy in bulk…
DESIGN A MASK: For this one, we purchased a set of DIY Shaped Masks as well as Color-Your-Own Superhero Masks. With just under 50 total, we had enough for kids to make a handful each. In addition to markers, we set out some sequins for them to add some sparkle 🙂
BUILD AN OPERA HOUSE: If you’re a Phantom of the Opera fan, then this one won’t be a surprise. There’s a scene (and a song!) all about a Masquerade in there! While you can definitely splurge on the real Lego Opera Kit and have everyone work together, it does cost quite a bit. These kits were from the Dollar Tree – so they’re not official lego sets, but it’s a nice little activity for the kids. At $1 each, you might be able to get one for each kid too!
PUPPET THEATER: We set up another photo backdrop by the kids room – Red Curtain Backdrop along with a table with supplies to create felt puppets. (There are quite a few tutorials and templates online but we free-hand drew ours. Some of them are hot glued while some of the kids opted to use their kid sewing needles). Then we let them go crazy with their puppets and playwriting skills 🙂 Quick tip – if you purchased the Masquerade Cupcake Toppers, they might fit the finger puppets! As you can see, our finger puppet foxes got into the masquerade spirit 🙂
THE GIVE-AWAYS & GOODIE BAGS
On our table, we set up mini candy bags for people to take home with them. We wrapped them up in simple black tissue paper, tied with glittering silver ribbon. We also inserted the Masquerade Cupcake Toppers to give it more of a ‘masquerade’ feel. They doubled as decorations and a nice little give-away 🙂
We also had mini good bags with candy and other trinkets. The kids also got to keep all the masks and puppets they created throughout the party 🙂
