The Most Amazing Lego Party – Easy & Inexpensive Ideas!

If you’ve got a little Lego Movie fan, have a lego party to plan, or are just celebrating your little one’s love of building, there are tons of fun ideas that you can do! We had an amazing time planning and throwing this ULTIMATE Lego themed party for our little one. Read on to check out our ideas!

INVITATIONS

For parties, get your guests in the mood with lego themed invites.  There are tons of invites that you can find online but you can also use a simple card, add it to a fun colored envelope or small box (there are few Color Brick Party Favors you can use for invites instead or in addition to party favors).  If you’ve got the extras, toss in a few legos too. 

DECOR

Legos!  Legos!   Legos!   If you’ve got some lego scenes already built and want to share, have them out on tables as decoration.  BUT, be prepared that some kids may be touching them and those scenes may break. 

If you can make it to the Dollar Store, you can also find some banners, plates, napkins, etc.. Otherwise, you can find a whole set of table items from Oriental Trading: Brick Party Table Cover, Brick Party Dinner Plates, Brick Part Dessert Plates, and Brick Party Plastic Forks & Spoons.

We also used Color Brick Popcorn Boxes from Oriental Trading to hold spare Legos with some mini-signs for each activity. And brought out our Lego Storage Bins to hold Legos for each activity.

ACTIVITY TABLE(S)

We had a few activities to entertain guests before we guided them through the other stations and games as a group. We had a few “Guess the # of Legos” in the jars as well as a “Make Your Own Minifigure” station

We also had a craft table and a master builder table (pictures and descriptions below).

FOOD & DRINKS

CRAFTS

We had a “Design Your Own Minifigure” area where kids could draw and color on printed Lego figures. We also had a “Make Your Own Bracelet” where we had a Lego Dot Bracelet for each child.

MASTER BUILDER TABLE

At our Master Builder Table, we had a table with the bulk of our Legos. We had a few challenges just to start things off but also let them create whatever they wanted to.

GAMES

Rather than have an end to end adventure like some of our other parties (check them out here 🙂 ), we had more of a ‘booth / station’ type set up and played each game as a group. 

• I Spy the Lego Guy.  For this game, we asked all the children to close their eyes / go to another room.  Then we took their Lego mini-figure pictures that they designed and hid them around the party area.  The kids would have to “save their Lego guys” by finding them. 

• Lego Mazes – This one does take quite a bit of effort as you have to create the maze yourself, but surprisingly, our little guests really spent their time on this one. You’ll need large base plate and lots of Legos. I made mine 3 levels high and used a small wooden craft ball (though you could use a marble if you had one). Instead of timing the children, we just let them solve the maze.

• Lego Memory –  We used a white poster board and the small soufflé cups (Disposable Soufflé Cups),  On the soufflé cups, we used pencil and just hand-wrote “LEGO” on the top.  Most guests could tell it looked like a Legobaseboard, so that was good enough for us 🙂  You could just use random Lego pieces that match and play regular old Memory with each kid trying to find matching pairs.  We’ve done this one year and our guests got really into it!  We mixed it up by adding in two or three Legos under the cups to make it a bit more challenging.  On another Lego party, we had an older group of kids, so we increased the challenge level.  We split them up into two groups and still had them find matching pairs.  BUT, the Legos were actually from two sets of the same polybag (you can usually get these for less than $5 at any store and they’re about 30-50 pieces generally).   Once they found a pair (we did keep score), but they had to give one Lego piece to one group and keep the other.  Once all Legos were found, they had to build the set.  Whoever built the entire set quicker won. Note: if you’ve got an overly competitive group and some sensitive kids, you may want to alter the game a bit, e.g. no timers, etc…

• Twister – Lego Style.  You can play Lego – twister style!  You can purchase a game set (Color Brick Party Bending Game) or really make your own.  If you make your own, you can simply use colored construction paper, draw on some circles, lay them out on the floor, and voila – you have a homemade twister set. 

• Build it together –  Ask all the kids to come to one side of the room with a bucket of Legos.  Then, one at a time, ask a kid to grab a handful and start building.  Once he/she is done with his/her Legos, ask the other kid to grab a bunch.  That child will build upon the Lego set.  Repeat until everyone has had a turn.  

• Treasure Hunt. For this one, we used the Color Brick Party Favors for each clue. The boxes had a few purposes (they looked cute and in lego-theme, inside the box was the next clue, AND the box held a few lego pieces for a larger lego set!)
  1. In the Lego Movie, this mysterious character visits our fearless hero, Emmet.  / Though throughout the movie, he didn’t get much credit.  / His vision of the Man ____ helped save the day.  Go find this part of your house / And on this treasure hunt we’ll be well on our way! [Answer: Upstairs.  Hide the clue somewhere upstairs or by a staircase.]
  2. Again, no one believes in our dear Emmet /  Though towards the end, many of the other characters regret it. / His brilliant idea had him making this into a double / you only have one but there’s enough space to cuddle.  [Couch]
  3. And before we leave Emmet for now, but not forever / We thank him for showing Lord Business that Legos should not be kept together / Though you may not have this version of the Kragle, you’ll likely have some form of glue.  Go find where it’s stored, and you’ll surely see your next clue! [Answer: Kragle/Glue]
  4. Onto Ninjago to visit our Elemental friends / I promise for this next clue you won’t need a magic lens.  / Nya is the Elemental Master of ____.  / You may have a few places where that comes out, but don’t worry, / I know you won’t falter.  [Water/Sink]
  5. Our next Master of Element is Zane. / And we’re just about halfway through this game.  /  If he encased you in his element, it wouldn’t feel so nice.  / It’s super, super cold.  It’s ____. [Ice/Freezer]
  6. ____ is our next element, courtesy of Master Cole.  You might have a piece of this in your house if you’ve dug a small hole.  / It’s another word for dirt or soil / If I tell you more, it might be a spoil. [Earth/Dirt.  Hide the clue in the yard or by a plant]
  7. Let’s move onward and visit another Lego favorite of ours / Lego Batman, you had us laughing for hours and hours! / It seems that lobster thermidor is what you crave. / And when you come back home late, you heat it in the ______.  [Microwave].
  8. Not only does he have a batmobile,batbuggy, batcopter.  / But it seems within his cave he also stores a batraptor! /  And that’s not all, there’s also a batsub / if we had a toy version, we could play with it in our ___.  [Tub]
  9. “Puter!  Puter!  Puter!”  Poor Batman, he can’t get into this console / Alfred put some parental measures to try and get some control / Let’s hope you don’t get locked out of this device!  If you don’t listen to your parents, losing time with this might just be the price! [Phone/Computer/Electronic Device]/
  10. And Last but not least / this you’ll likely find with ease. / You store all your Legos in this place / Head over and let’s see the big smile on your face! [Where they store their Legos]

GOODIE BAGS

If you want to keep in theme when you’re guests leave, sprinkle in some lego items for their goodie bag along with any of the regular candy or hand outs you want to give out.  You can also find some small lego sets for under $5 if you’d rather do bigger gift for each kid. 

We added in Lego Pencils and Candy Bricks (18 Mini Packets).  We also broke apart a few lego sets ( Lego Classic Building Set – Blue, Lego Classic Building Set – Green) to create the mini-sets and placed those in a bag for each kid (it was a bit more cost effective than buying a polybag or small set for everyone).
