Beautiful Homemade Halloween Bouquets with a Quick & Easy STEM Activity

Looking for a quick & easy learning fun activity for your littles around Halloween? Coloring flowers is a great way to show kids how water travels through a flower & you get beautifully colored flowers in a just few days! As a seasonal Halloween twist, color them to match your Halloween decorations (black, orange, purple green, etc..) then cleverly place a few plastic spiders, cobwebs, or other decorations around to add to the fun 🙂

WHAT YOU NEED

THE SUPPLIES

  • White Flowers (Carnations, Roses, and Daises all work well)
  • Vase, upcycled jars, or containers (to hold the water)
  • Food Coloring (Halloween Colors: Black, Orange, Purple, Greens, etc…)

THE SETUP

We’ve done this experiment a few times but originally found it on the Steve Spangler site: Colorful Carnations. The instructions are clear & there’s also a description of the science if you’re using this as a learning activity.

Since we’re using this for Halloween Decorations, we opted for the traditional Halloween Colors: black. We paired the black dyed roses with store-bought orange ones then added in some plastic spiders and other Halloween decorations 🙂
