WHAT YOU’LL NEED
THE SUPPLIES:
- A Small Basket. We used these wooden pint boxes as they were small and light: One Pint Wooden Gift Boxes from Amazon.
- 2-4 Wooden Dowels. Ours were 12in but you can get them smaller if you like. Natural Wood Craft Dowels from Amazon.
- A Paper Lantern. We used these 2021 Graduation Lanterns from Amazon but a lantern in the graduate’s school colors would also do nicely!
- Tissue Paper. Here we used black colored tissue to match the lantern but you can modify it to match yours.
THE TOOLS
- Glue Gun. I found a glue gun works best & quickest but you can make do with glue and tape.
STEPS
STEP 1: Assemble the Lantern
The lantern should come with instructions. Most are fairly easy to set up – essentially unfold the lantern and add something inside to help keep its shape.
STEP 2: Add the Dowels
Glue the dowels in place in the corners of the basket. I used four in this tutorial for each corner, but you can get away with less if you have a different shaped basket.
Once the glue dries, add in the tissue paper. This will also help keep the dowels in place. Since my dowels peek out at the open ends of the corner, I added a rubber band to help keep them in place.
STEP 3: Assemble the Balloon
Place a drop of glue onto the top ends of the dowels then position your lantern on top.
STEP 4: Add your Gift
Add your gift into the basket. Since the basket is a bit delicate, you will want to add only light objects (gift card, jewelry, etc).
THE FINISHED PRODUCT!
Now that you’re done, your hot air balloon doubles as a piece of decoration for a graduation party!
