Awesome Ideas for a Fun & Easy Gingerbread House Party!

Looking for some added fun to your Holiday season?  You may or may not have made some gingerbread houses in the past but make it an entire day of fun with these added activities!  Read on to check out the fun!

THE TABLE

Once you’re done making some gingerbread cookies & houses, you’ll want to “dig in”.  Eating on a gingerbread themed table just adds to the fun!  We used a few ‘gingerbread’ items (Gingerbread Napkins and Gingerbread Paper Cups) but mostly used solid colored plates, napkins, and plasticware that you can find discounted at party stores or at Dollar Stores. We also scattered a few felt stickers across the table that they kids were more than happy to collect once we were done eating!

We also had some Gingerbread Favor Boxes on the table with some mini candies inside (NOTE: this price is much higher than what I purchased it for, so you could do a paper box alternative if you want to have something on the table). You could create some Paper Gingerbread Houses with this free printable from ayeletkeshet.com: Printable Gingerbread House Template to Color. (We have used this for a much larger group and most of the younger-age elementary kids were able to do this on their own 😉 )

THE YUMMY GOODIES!

We like to start off with making the gingerbread shaped cookies so that they’re all ready by the time we’re through the activities.  If gingerbread isn’t your family’s favorite flavor, you can always opt for a different type of cookie – sugar cookies work well and can be decorated with icing and other candy 🙂  We used this Gingerbread Cookie Cutter Set but you can find larger sets as well.

ACTIVITIES

  • Printable Gingerbread House Template to Color (from ayletkeshet.com). Whether you’ve added this to your table beforehand or not, this is definitely a quick and easy activity for the kiddos to do! All you need to do is print out the template and color! Then put together with a bit of glue or tape & you’re all done!
  • Gingerbread Child’s Apron Craft: This one is super cute and fun for the kids to put together!  While you can definitely sew the buttons on, you can also opt to hot glue them if you’re pressed for time.
  • Gingerbread House with Stickers: While some younger kids may need help peeling the stickers off (so they don’t rip), this is a great gingerbread activity!  Just be forewarned – if you have a number of kids, they may want to create more than one!
  • Gingerbread Scratch Ornaments: This is a nice activity that lets the kids create their own gingerbread people just by scratching off some of the top layer.  Underneath are different colors that will show their designs!
  • The Gingerbread Houses: What’s a gingerbread party without a gingerbread house!!!  If you’ve got a small-ish group or just want to create some smaller houses, you can pick up some relatively inexpensive kits from grocery stores (The one we used in this post is from Target & was $3).  Otherwise, you could always go the graham cracker route and decorate around a mini-milk or juice carton!
  • Story Time: With a number of gingerbread books out there (10+ Gingerbread Books for Wintertime by scholastic.com), it’s easy to find a few that might entertain your kids. End the day with a bit of story time with the kiddos to calm them down 🙂 And if that doesn’t work, let them create some mini-skits with their gingerbread ornaments!
