Welcome to our “For the Love of Science – A Fun-Filled DIY Forces Camp Week” series. For this week, we focused on the study of forces. Read through to check out how to ways to decorate your camp area, links to interactive online games, fun & educational videos, books, writing prompts, experiments, food crafts & snacks, and kid-friendly crafts all themed for the week!
Feel free to pick certain days or follow the entire week – as long as it gets the kiddos to keep learning while they’re having an amazing time!
DAY ONE: Set-up the “Camp Area”
We usually start of the week by introducing the topic and setting up the camp area. It’s a pretty easy day (think of it like the first day of school – a day to get acclimated)
For Day 1 of our Intro to Forces, we set up a “high tech” science lab in our camp area. We purchased a Science Lab Backdrop and created an “entry scanner”, complete with a handprint and numbers to enter a secret code. 🙂
DAY TWO: Fun with Friction
For Day 2 of our Camp week focused on forces, we had a brief introduction into the concepts of friction. We watched a few educational videos, read some books, and conducted a few experiments. Click here to view a full detail of the day.
Day THREE: Marvelous Magnets
For this camp day, we focused on magnets: what they are, how they work, and what we can do with them! Click here to view a full detail of the day.
DAY FOUR: Great Gravity
For Day 4 of our camp, we spent the day studying gravity. We tried to ‘defy’ gravity with our food crafts / snacks, read a few books, listened to a view astronauts read some books online, and conducted our own experiments! Click here to view a full detail of the day.
