Welcome to the Treasure Trove of Dragon-Themed Elementary Books! If your elementary school kid is fascinated with dragons and loves reading, this post is for you! While we definitely cannot list every single dragon book series, here are a number of ones that have graced the bookshelves of our house, captured our imaginations, and had our kiddos wanted to read more!!! We hope you find this list as enjoyable as our household did! If you’ve any more suggestions, comment below!
How to Train Your Dragon Series
If you’re kids are dragon-loving movie types, then you may be familiar with a version of the How to Train a Dragon books. While the movie deviates from the books, the familiar characters like Toothless and Hiccup take center stage in this book series. The books follow their journey throughout their lives during the Viking Era where they interact with several Vikings and Dragons.
Wings of Fire
While the entire Wings of Fire Series isn’t split up into sections, we like to think of this set as more centered around the Dragonets of Destiny (Dragon Babies). Each book is written in a different Dragonet’s perspective, so you get an understanding of the Wings of Fire WOrld
Wings of Fire
This next set of Wings of Fire books takes place when the Dragonets of Destiny are slightly older and have opened up a school. This set uncovers the secret to the long-lost powers of one of the Dragon Type’s foresight and mind-reading.
Wings of Fire
This next set of books takes the readers to a faraway land where new Dragon types are introduced – Leafwings, Silkwings, and Hivewings. While the Dragonets of Destiny are not featured in these books, we get a glimpse of the larger world of dragons and what happens outside of the Dragonets world!
Magic Series
Though this series does not focus solely on Dragons (like the Wings of Fire Series), there is a main dragon whose character subplot follows closely with the main magical human character’s. Together, they go on a journey to save their families and their world.
Ice Wolves Series
This book series is arguably more complex than the ones above and is likely to capture hearts and minds of older children. A war rages between the Ice Wolves and the Scorch Dragons, so you definitely get the perspective of those who oppose the existence of dragons. There’s quite a bit of character development and concepts of good, evil, and the mixture of both within a being, so may get your readers pondering!
The Inheritance Series
This series has been around for quite a while but is definitely geared toward older children as it’s pace is a bit slower than the series above. In this series, humans take center stage; however, they can bond with a dragon allowing them to know and feel what the dragon is feeling.
