Welcome to our “Digging up Dinosaur Discoveries! – An Amazing DIY Dinosaur Camp Week” series. For this week, we focused on the study of dinosaurs, dinosaur eggs, fossils, and theories for extinction. Read through to check out how to ways to decorate your camp area, links to interactive online games, fun & educational videos, books, writing prompts, experiments, food crafts & snacks, and kid-friendly crafts all themed for the week!
Feel free to pick certain days or follow the entire week – as long as it gets the kiddos to keep learning while they’re having an amazing time!
DAY ONE: Orientation Day
We usually start of the week by introducing the topic and setting up the camp area. It’s a pretty easy day (think of it like the first day of school – a day to get acclimated). We did a TON of crafts (dinosaur exercise cubes, story sticker sheets, Dinosaur Period collages), performed a science experiment, and kicked off a few week long projects (creating a full-size **cough cough** child size ** cough cough** 3D dinosaur landscape). DAY TWO: A Day of Excitement with Dino Eggs & Babies
For Day 2 of our camp week, we focused on dinosaur eggs & babies! We watched snippets of a few documentaries, read and wrote about dinosaur eggs & babies, created some ‘dinosaur nests’ for snack time, and crafted some balloon-sized dinosaur eggs to add to our dinosaur scene! DAY THREE: Finding Fossils
For Day 3 of our camp week, we focused on dinosaur fossils: what types of fossils there are and how they’re formed! We watched a few brief educational videos, read through a fossil book, “dug” for fossil snacks, completed some comics, and played some games! Click here for a full detail of the day!
DAY FOUR: Fun with Dinosaur Food
For Day 4 of our camp week, we focused on what dinosaurs ate, how they were classified, and their teeth. We read a few books, sung a few songs, wrote some creative stories, and examined some dinosaur teeth images! Click here for a full detail of the day!

If you’re fortunate enough to live by and can visit a museum with real fossils, a fun trip to see them would be a great way to cap off the week!
