Does your little one love birds and all things related to them?  From making birdhouses to imaginative play bird watching, this party definitely took flight!  Read on to check it out!

THE TABLE

Our bird table was filled with all things birds & bird watching!  We had Tropical Toucan Dinner Plates, Tropical Toucan Cups, Artificial Birds, Mini Bird Cages, and craft feathers all adorning the table 🙂  The mini bird nest definitely brought some “awws” and “ooohs” from our young crowd.

CRAFT TABLE

  • A Flock of Birds: We set up a table for painting a few birds with two options: Bird Suncatchers & Bird-Shaped Wood DIY Crafts.  There were enough for kids to create at least one of each, so they weren’t limited to picking one 🙂
  • Bird Houses:  We had a few wooden houses (which you can get in bulk online or at Michaels) and some paint.  Most kids ended up using the paint markers since it was a bit different from what they were used to (Honestly, it’s a slightly less messy than paint, so no complaints here 😉 )
  • Bird Watching Binoculars.  We’ve created a few of our DIY Upcycled Binoculars for camps and other parties, and they’re always great for imaginative play!  We had a few set up for kids to use for the party but also had some materials in case they wanted to create their own.  The kids could use these later on in the ‘search for bids’ game.

GAMES & ACTIVITIES

  • “Bird Watching”: For this game, we had the kids pick up a Bird Watching Booklet and explained there were ‘birds’ all around the party area.  For the younger children, they just had to find the bird & draw them in their booklet.  For the older children, their goal was to find as many & write down any facts they found next to those birds.  We used the birds in the National Geographic Pocket Book Guide to the Birds of North America to create the print outs of some of the more common birds for the party area.   The bird pictures also doubled as decoration 🙂
  • Bird Gliders: We picked up a packet of bird gliders from Oriental Trading.  We let the kids create the ones they wanted & then took them outside to fly.  (To be honest, the gliders don’t fly that well, but the kids had fun picking out colors and putting them together)
  • Bird Nests.  Since we were out in the yard, the kids ended up creating ‘bird nests’ with some loose sticks and grass.

GOODIE BAG

The kids went home with big smiles and tiny trinkets: the mini-bird nest from their table setting as well as some Stickers, Bird Paddle Games from the Dollar Tree, and Mini Plush Toucan.
