If you’re looking for an easy Valentine’s Day party for a group of kids, we have a few ideas for you! Read on to check out one of our low-key Valentines Day parties filled with heart shaped goodies and fun craft activities.
THE TABLE
We set up the table with a few heart-themed plates and napkins and laid them on top of some red heart-shaped doilies. We also scattered some Mini Red Rose Picks and other flower tops scattered around the table.
Our centerpiece was a bouquet of red roses with two white tiered cupcake towers on each side. Our towers held some valentine goodies – Ghirardelli heart shaped chocolate, valentine-themed M&Ms in cupcake lines, heart shaped cookies, heart shaped lollipops, and other heart-shaped candies that we picked up.
FOOD & DRINKS
Our food was pretty simple. We used a heart-shaped sandwich cutter to create some heart sandwiches. Though red jam and jelly sandwiches might have fit the color scheme, we didn’t have too many asking for strawberry sandwiches. There were far more nutella sandwiches requested as well as turkey and cheese 🙂 Either way, once they were cut up into hearts, they looked super cute!
For dessert, we had a red velvet cake baked in a heart shaped pan (though full disclaimer – some of the kiddos weren’t too happy about cutting a heart apart, so maybe not for everyone??). The kids could also pick out a few goodies from the tier of desserts 🙂
ACTIVITIES
Since we had a crafty bunch for this one, all of our activities were some sort of craft. You could definitely mix or substitute any supplies if you don’t have these on hand.
- Mini Wooden Hearts – Wood slices are always a great base for a craft. For this party, we opted for Mini Heart Wood Shapes. They are definitely on the smaller side – we picked them for fingerprint hearts, so they worked well for our purpose. But if you’re looking to paint or draw some scenes or pictures, you may want to go with a set with larger hearts.
- Paper Arrows – This Cupid’s Arrow Paper Straw Craft Kit had everything needed to make some fun paper arrows. You can make 12 out of this kit, so it was enough for our group, but you could always add some red straws and some other construction paper to get a few more arrows out of the activity.
- Foam Hearts – For this one, we picked up a set of Foam Shaped Hearts and spread out some glue and valentine-color themed beads and sequins. (While it was nice and easy to have the hearts already cut out, you could also opt to cutting out some construction paper hearts and using cardboard to make it a bit sturdier)
- Rock Painting – We did find a Valentines Day Rock Art Kit by Creatology that already has designs drawn on the rocks and all you have to do is add the paint. If you can find it on discount, it’s anywhere between $5-$8 but only comes with a few rocks. If you’ve got a larger group or class, you may want to have the kiddos go on a rock hunt at the park, supply some paint, and let their imaginations soar!
