Does it seem like adorable little axolotls are popping up everywhere?  Whether you’ve got a little one begging for a new pet, have a gaming fan that’s falling in love with the block version of this amphibian, or looking for a unique party theme, this party is great for you!  Read on to check out our ideas on decorations, games, activities, and more!

DECORATIONS

Since axolotls live in water, several ‘underwater’ or ‘water’ party decorations can definitely be used for an Axolotl party!  We have definitely had our fair share of mermaid, shark, and pirate parties, so we reused some of decorations: Hanging Bubble Garland, Bubble Garland, Bubble Wand Cutouts AND brought out the bubble machine!

And, if you’ve seen any of our other parties, we LOVE using themed stickers for multiple purposes at our parties.  We spread out some Axolotl Stickers all around the party area!

THE TABLE

For our axolotl party, we purchased a few plates and axolotl napkins and combined those with some pink and blue solid colors.  It doesn’t look like those plates are available now, but you could definitely find some other sets online: Blue Axolotl Party Plates, Pink Axolotl Party Plates

We also spread out some Mini Axolotls all around the table.  Note: they are a bit small, so if you have a much younger group of kids/toddlers, you may want to find a bigger set of figurines

PARTY FOOD

While there aren’t really any ‘axolotl’ snacks, any water-themed snacks aren’t too big of a stretch 😉  Serve up some goldfish, swedish fish, fish shaped sandwiches (or fish if your party guests would eat it!), etc.

If you’ve got the time, create some axolotl cupcakes: Using some edible eyes and any straw or straight candy, you can decorate cupcakes to look like axolotl heads!  Or just top your treats with some Bubble Picks.

GAMES & ACTIVITIES

Whether it’s a set of crafts or some party games, it’s always great to have a few party activities for all to join in!  Here are a few of ours!

  • Perler Bead Axolotl: We bought this kit for the peg boards and pattern sheets, but we also had a whole set of extra beads as well.  There are also quite a few patterns that you can find and print online!  Perler beads are great for slightly older kids (the perler beads are really small, so might be tough for younger kids).  BUT, to finish the creation, you do need an adult to iron the craft in order to fuse the beads together.
  • Axolotl Habitats: Let little ones get creative and create a mini habitat for their mini axolotls!  We used some mini jars but if you have any small jars, you could definitely upcycle them (baby food jars, jelly jars, etc).  Otherwise, if you have a smallish group, you could spring for a Axolotl Terrarium for each little one!
  • Sticker Hunt: Axolotl Stickers:  This activity works soooo well that we use it in almost every party!  Stickers are a great way of decorating party tables (as table scatter).  For some of our last activities, we have a ‘sticker hunt’ and let the little ones run around collecting as many as possible!   They get to keep or trade whichever ones they find!

And while we didn’t get to these other crafts and activities, we thought we’d mention them here for some more fun to pick and choose from:

GOODIE BAGS & GIVE-A-WAYS

For our goodie bags, kids could take home anything they made.  We also added in some Axolotl Make a Face Stickers and had an “Adopt an Axolotl” station with some Mini Axolotl Plushies!
