The Ultimate Purple Halloween Party – Easy & Inexpensive Ideas

While orange and black may be the first colors that a mind conjures when thinking of Halloween, purple and black make quite the eerie setting for Halloween as well!  Often associated with witches (who so very often make their appearances around Halloween), the color purple evokes spooky, supernatural, and mysterious vibes.  Paired with black, often associated with darkness, death, and the unknown, these two colors make quite the striking, mystical scene.  So, if you’re looking to switch up your Halloween decorations and take a break from the traditional orange and black, try out a mystical, spooky aura with purple and black! Read on to check out our ideas!

DECORATIONS

Luckily, there are quite a few purple decorations available around the Halloween season, so decorating with this color scheme is quite easy!  Whether it’s purple and black with some bats or cats or a truly witchy vibe you’re going for, you can find quite a bit out there.

Start with some solid black or purple table clothes, balloons, and streamers then add on some bats, spiders, flowers, and confetti table scatter.  Mix in some purple or black candles, purple fairy lights, or purple Halloween lights, and you can create an eerie glow for your party space!   And if you’re decorating for a witch party, definitely add some cauldrons!!!

THE PHOTO AREA

Photo backdrops are a great way of setting a theme and double as a nice and easy activity!  Pick a backdrop that functions as decorative, add a few props to the scene and you’ve got a great place to hang out!

While there are a handful of purple and black Halloween backdrops (Large Pumpkin Moon Backdrop, Halloween Night Backdrop, Starry Night Backdrop), you could always opt for some black and purple solid colors as well!

If you think some guests might not come in costume, you can have a few Witches hats for them to borrow throughout the party (or keep as a giveaway item).

Note, you don’t have to go all out with a photo backdrop stand either.  Grab a few pieces of tape and an empty wall & you’re all set!

THE TABLE

For our party, we had two tables: one with friendly looking black bats and purple solids for the younger ones and another with a more eerie, witchy theme for the older kids.

Little Kid Table: Our little kid table was a friendlier purple, black theme.  We had some purple bat plates as well as some foam bats scattered around the table.  (The link to the purple plates we used no longer works, but you can still find a few online: Purple Halloween Plates, Spooky Plates). We also used a Purple Spider Web Lace Table Runner and set up some small black Halloween trees.

Tween Witches’ Table: Our tween witches’ table had an eerie vibe to it – with basic purple & black solids as well as some witch elements.  We also had some Purple Tea Lights that cast some witch shadows on the wall as the sun went down 🙂

PARTY FOOD

No party is complete without some party food!  You can always serve some typical (or fancier) party food, but you can also keep in theme with a few clever labels or snacks 🙂  There are also quite a few purple fruits & veggies and candy to spread out on the table!

  • Witch Kisses: purple Hershey kisses
  • Mini cauldrons filled with veggies or fruit
  • Purple Cotton Candy
  • Purple grapes
  • Purple/Blue Corn Chips

ACTIVITY TABLE(S)

We typically set up an activity table for kids to keep entertained while everyone arrives AND after all the games are done.  These activities are simple and easy and typically don’t require too much supervision.

  • Halloween Night Sticker Scenes – Sticker scenes are simple & easy to set out. Some younger kids may need some help taking stickers off, but otherwise, this is a great activity kids can do themselves!
  • Purple Pom Pom Crafts – Make some pom pom spiders with some Purple Pom Poms, Beads, and Craft Pipe Cleaners!
  • Pumpkin Decorating – always a fun Halloween activity. If you don’t want to carve out pumpkins, you can always grab some decorating kits with paint or stickers!

GAMES

What’s a party without some fun and memorable games??? Kids will definitely have fun just running around and coming up with their own games, BUT adding in a few themed games will definitely be a hit with your guests! Here were a few of ours.

  • Scavenger Hunt: Hide a few Halloween or purple themed items around the party area. Make it a race or a cooperative game and let the kids free!
  • Wind them down with some story time on witches or Halloween!

And while we didn’t have these games at our party, you could also add these in for some more party fun.

GIVEAWAYS AND GOODIE BAGS

What’s a party without a few giveaways 🙂  In addition to any crafts they made, a few themed items would be nice to add into a goodie bag (Bat Stickers, Purple Slime, candy, etc)
