Welcome to our “Awesome & Amazing Sharks Week” – an at home week filled with days of relaxed learning and fun activities all themed to the oh-so-cool, sometimes scary, always awesome sharks!!! It’s perfect for shark week, shark enthusiasts, or ocean weeks. After our intro day, we focused a special, unique shark for the entire day! Read on to check out a fun filled week of learning, reading, crafts, and activities all on amazing sharks!
DAY ONE: An Introductory Day
Like most of our camp weeks, we kicked off the day by easing into the topic with an introductory day! We started off with setting up the learning space area with some ocean backdrops and shark coloring pages. DAY TWO: Great White Sharks!
For our first focused shark day, we picked the famous Great White Shark! Massive, ferocious, and mysterious, these creatures have made appearances in movies, cartoons, books, and more! DAY THREE: Whale Sharks!
For our next day, we focused on the whale shark! This beloved gentle creature needed a day all on it’s own! Made popular by a famous fish movie, the whale shark has made its way into the heads and minds of many little kids! DAY FOUR: Nurse Sharks!
For our next day, we focused on a less widely known shark – the nurse shark! Nurse sharks may not be as popular as our first two sharks, but they are definitely worth the study! These gentle creatures can actually stay perfectly still! Amazing! DAY FIVE: Lemon Sharks!
And for our final day, we finished off with a uniquely colored shark – the lemon shark! So named because of it’s yellowish, brownish color, this shark is the only shark that is mostly this hue! We learned all about these wonderfully social creatures. Click here to see full details of the day!
FINISH OFF THE WEEK
While many of us may not be lucky enough to dive into the water and swim with the sharks – especially the ones we focused on this week, there are quite a few short videos by divers and aquariums that you can find online. Otherwise, grab some popcorn and make it a movie night with movies featuring some sharks! There’s not shortage of jaws movies out but you can also opt for kid-friendlier films Finding Dory (for the beloved whale shark), Shark Tale, or Baby Shark!
